April Political Debate Topic (Post Your Noods!)

Do dumplings such as gnocchi count as noodels? I'm a big fan of Buccantini because the sauce goes IN the noods.
  4. Noods are so popular, there’s even a religion for it! But whose are better?! Italians? Asians? Other?!?!!? WARNING: NOT CELIAC/KETO-FRIENDLY NSFW IF YOU FORGOT TO BRING LUNCH TODAY I’ll post some of mine first: Japanese Tsukemen! Pride noods! Vietnamese Pho! FUSION’D! Angel hair pasta with sea urchin sauce! After experiencing all of these, I can confidently agree 100%.

Why does this look so fun?

I think because being able to cut out perfect cubes of forest like Minecraft is aesthetically pleasing lol.

Why I dont like Epic: Their CEO compared choosing the only PC competitor to Windows as moving to Canada after a presidential election They refuse to support Linux Their largest shareholder is a firm run by Chinese oligarchs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_Games#Games_as_a_Service_and_Tencent_acquisition_(2012–2018) They used advice from Chinese oligarchs to milk money from tweens: https://techcrunch.com/2018/12/27/epic-fortnite-3-billion-profit/ They used that money to engage in anti-consumer and anti-competitive practices: https://www.engadget.com/2019/04/03/epic-to-continue-game-store-exclusives/ They (likely illegally) collect data without sufficient notice: https://www.thenerdmag.com/epic-games-store-fails-to-comply-with-gdpr/ They inspect steam data without permission (don't worry, Epic said it was totally innocent! They just naively copied a file they totally had no intention of using): https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/epic-promises-to-fix-game-launcher-after-privacy-concerns/ Their store is terrible: That all said, I think their revenue split is cool and I think steam should increase their revenue split to a similar level.

I created an Epic account before Fortnite came out, the launcher back then was very bare bones and a little confusing but there was literally only 3-4 games to play. Quake, Unreal, etc. but as soon as Fortnite gained popularity the attacks on my account started. My account got hacked literally every 3 days and I still receive notifications about it - Thankfully I never paid for anything through there. That's just my personal anecdotal experience. Also I like to minimize the amount of places I have to enter CC info.

So, I completely understand why PC players are pissed off. The Epic Games Launcher is so shit. I wouldn't be able to prove it, but I'd go so far as to say that their platform is OBJECTIVELY worse than Steam in every way. On top of that, paranoia of the launcher doubling as spyware has been circulating. So of course every rational person and their mom wants to play BL3 on Steam, and to have to wait six months to do it is a massive bummer. However, I don't think what Epic games is doing is unfair. Actually, its the smartest business move Epic could have made at the time. As of right now, hoarding exclusives is the ONLY WAY anyone is going to use Epic's service, and they know that. What motivation would anyone have to use their platform when Steam outpaces them at every step? I liken this move to the practices commonly conducted on consoles. Console-exclusive games always have and always will be used to push the hardware. Epic is using the timed exclusivity they have with BL3 to push their platform. It's just good business sense, it works wonders in the console market. What it comes down to really is the morality of it. Is it fair that Epic wants to force PC users to use their shitty spyware-infested service instead of just cleaning that service up to make it an actual competitor to Steam? Fuck no. But is it also fair that we let Steam continue to have a virtual monopoly of digital video game distribution on PC? I personally wouldn't say so. And even though Epic is royally fucking up their chance day by day to succeed with this business venture, getting BL3 as an exclusive is the best thing they can do right now to compete, seeing as they haven't made any real strides in trying to fix their shitty service.

But why fuck Epic? I thought we liked competition.

    Risk of Rain 2

I've seen the first Risk of Rain on Steam a few times, it looked interesting but honestly I was tired of 2D rogue-likes because they were being pumped out at the time like Minecraft clones. However the concept always seemed cool. I have a special place in my heart for multi-player, co-op rogue-likes and especially when they revolve around gathering and stacking passive and active items and buffs. I think this video has pretty much sold me on the game. Looks like it would be very fun with friends.

Been working at the lumber yard, so I'm pretty beat and the end of the day, but lift all day, is that's nice.

I remember learning about raytracing in my game design course. Being 13 years ago makes it look prehistoric compared to this.

    Book Club

While hanging out on Discord with Lupich and Garbagepatrol, Lupich had the idea of a book club. The manner of it's conveyance would be a handful of books be presented from a list compiled from all participants. The handful would be presented once a month, at random, with a brief synopsis, and then voted upon by the readers. Then we would talk about the book, perhaps with some wine and cheese. Here's my initial list, may edit. Bertrand Russel -The Conquest of Happiness -Unpopular Opinions Robert Glover -No More Mr. Nice Guy Charles Duhigg -Power of Habit Dale Carnegie -How to Win Friends and Influence People Salman Rushdie -The Satanic Verses Robert A Caro -The Power Broker Kurt Vonnegut -Slaughterhouse Five Douglas Coupland -Jpod Aldous Huxley -Brave New World Hemingway -Men Without Women -For Whom the Bell Tolls -The Sun Also Rises Dave Eggers -The Circle David Foster Wallace -Infinite Jest Don Delillo -Underworld Ayn Rand -Atlus Shrugged Milan Kundera -The Unbearable Lightness of Being William Golding -Rites of Passage Noah Hawley -The Good Father Adam Smith -Wealth of Nations Jack London -The Call of the Wild Homer -The Iliad and The Odyssey Henry David Thoreau -Walden James Jones -The Thin Red Line Ralph Waldo Emerson -Self Reliance and Other Essays Thomas Hobbes -Leviathan Gary Paulson -Hatchet Founding Fathers -Federalist Papers John Kennedy Toole -Confederation of Dunces Victor Frankl -Man's Search for Meaning Soren Kierkegaard -Fear and Trembling Marcus Aurelius -Meditations
